Schedule: Most SundaysKanin was born deep in the Golmore Jungle as the youngest child to an ailing and elderly mother at the time when the shadow of Garlemald hung dark over the tribes. Fearing for the safety of her young infant, Kanin's mother called her eldest daughter, Vaani, back from the city, beseeching her to smuggle the child to safety.Vaani, considered an outcast for leaving her ancestral lands for the city and marrying a Roegadyn pirate, was reluctant to take the risk. However, rumors of the horrible conditions of Viera taken to Garlemald gave her the courage to brave the journey with the newborn infant. Kanin has never seen the sun dappled trees and exotic flora that make up her native lands of Golmore.Instead, she was brought up as the only child to her sister Vaani and her husband Holskfolg. Sheltered in the high walls of their city home in Shirogane Kanin saw little of the world in her formative years. The fear borne of the midnight flight through the jungle never left her sister Vaani and as she took on the role of mothering the infant viera she found herself unable to risk Kanin’s future safety. She sequestered the young girl within the walls of their large family estate keeping her from the world to ensure no one could snatch her away. The rarity of viera did not help alleviate this fear and it held true until her sister passed when Kanin was in her late teens.At the passing of his wife Holskfolg was unsure of his ability to continue to guard his niece and adopted-daughter, especially as rumors of unrest in Garlemald seemed to come from all directions. This led Holskfolg to smuggle Kanin out of Kugane and send her to Eorzea to stay with the extended family of his late wife, an Uncle and Aunt who had settled in the Gridania. Terrified and unsure of the freedom she found on the other side of her gilded cage Kanin clung to her new found family to learn the confidence needed to interact with the world. She bonded quickly with her cousin Allesaz and they became as close as siblings.Since adventuring out Kanin has found herself harboring an internal serenity she never expected she would possess. Several summers spent adventuring, bonding with her dear cousin, and experiencing many exciting places have allowed her to blossom. She has learned she held an affinity for the healing arts, which were her mother’s legacy, and she has become a deft combat medic supporting many adventuring parties when called upon.Recently, Kanin suffered the effects of a potions accident which transmuted her natural born form. An unscrupulous vendor in Ul’dah mixed up her order of Super-Ether’s with a party drug known as Fanta. This twisted the young viera into a new form taking on the scales and petite form of a true born Aurri. She has taken the changes in stride, and though she worries more may lay under the transformation then just a misplaced drug, she is enjoying the new perspective.
